The Next Book…’The Web’…

My next book will be another historical fiction novel, this time set in a village in Warwickshire. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book, the village has a rich history spanning the centuries and offers the perfect setting for a new historical fiction novel. This will be a tale of love, loss, land and loyalty spread over several time periods.

I have been struggling with Long Covid for the past three years and my diagnosis was recently evolved into ‘Chronic Fatigue Syndrome’ alongside dysautonomia. I have a lot of fatigue and that’s made doing research for the next book really challenging on top of working. However, I have now adjusted my working week so I am hopefully able to get back to my research and ultimately get to writing my second book.

I am pretty sure there will be corvids involved and I have re-opened the research gently with some crow-based reading and the purchasing of a corvid cuddly!

The recent nice weather has given me opportunity to restart my research from my lovely outdoor nook
A cuddly crow will accompany me on my research efforts

I visited Tamworth Castle last year and was excited to see the ‘witch marks’ in the Elizabethan porch. I think witchcraft will almost certainly feature in the next novel…

Those of you who have been asking about my next book might find the FB video above offering a sneaky look in my research journal interesting!

You can’t just sit down and write a historical fiction novel without research and my next book has five time periods spanning a thousand years, so there is quite a lot of reading for me to do! These are some of the books I am working my way through. They might give you a clue about the kind of characters and plot you will encounter in The Web…

I walk my setting and I imagine my characters there. Slowly they take shape, they come to life…
Long Covid has disrupted my timetable for book number two but at least I know what still needs to be done before I can start writing
I have characters, I have plot, I have five time periods and a setting…
